Over the last 10 years, the popularity of tattoo art or permanent decorative body art has increased dramatically.Today,
more than 10 million US citizens have at least one or more tattoos . With this rise in the number of tattooed people,
also comes a rise in the number of cases of tattoo removal. This is not a small group as it is estimated that 50% of
people who get tattoos later regret them.Tattoo removal is a procedure in which the tattoo is removed from the skin of
the tattooed person. There are actually several ways for tattoo removal.
Q Switched Lasers
These are the most popular and cost efficient tattoo removal procedure. The laser basically breaks down the pigments in the
ink used for the tattoo and the broken down pigments are then dispersed into the body. The impact of the laser pulse is often
compared to the feeling of snapping a rubber band on the skin. These lasers typically don’t penetrate deep enough into the skin
to cause scarring. Most tattoo removal scarring comes from improper aftercare on part of the patient during the healing process.
Treatments are typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Your body needs time to heal properly and flush the ink out. Each session may
cost around $300 to $600 with a duly certified medical team.
Light Therapy
This is a more expensive alternative to laser therapy tattoo removal and is also a less painful way of tattoo removal. The basic
concept is the same but instead of the painful laser that burns; an intense, pulsing light is used. Many claim that this is more
effective in the sense of tattoo removal. The cost is several times that of the laser procedure which is why it is not always recommended.
Abrasion
This is a tried and true method of tattoo removal called dermabrasion.Tattoo removal using this technique is painful and is sure
to result in severe scarring. The procedure uses some form of abrasive to remove the upper layer of the tattooed skin and slowly
eats away at the part of the dermis in which the ink has been deposited.I have to admit I simply do not have the pain threshold
to bare such a painful procedure.
Fade Away Crean
There are numerous fade away creams on the market for home tattoo removal. I feel that are the safest to use. They are non-surgical
and the cost is relatively low and no pain involved whatsoever. It will have to be rubbed into the area that is tattooed numerous
times in order for the cream to be adequately absorbed by the skin. The cream creates a chemical reaction on the tattooed area that
destroys the chemical bond that the ink has with your skin.
Acid Peel
I started researching tattoo removal online and came across acid peels. This is also a procedure you can have done by a
professional. I bought a bottle of acid peel off of eBay it came with instructions for tattoo removal. I followed all the
instructions and applied the acid to my fingers. It burned very badly and turned the surface of my fingers white. The next day
the white area over the tattoos crusted over and flaked off. After a week or so it was completely healed but the tattoos looked
basically the same. Over the next month I tried the acid peel several more times violating what the instructions called for and
making the treatments very strong. The pain was increased, The results where slightly better.
